Perhaps the most acknowledged fast foods around the world is Kentucky Fried Chicken, or KFC for short and popularly known for its secret fried chicken formula. Behind such an excellent success story is Colonel Harland Sanders-a man whose coming of age from obscurity to the world limelight is so inspiring and learning for anyone. This is an investigation into the life of Sanders, the entrepreneurial spirit, and how KFC became a global phenomenon.
Early Days
Harland David Sanders was born on 9th September, 1890. Henryville in the state of Indiana was the home of this young lad. The world then was already full of struggle and strife wasn’t done with him yet. The boy suffered his first loss in life when barely a few months old, his father died when he was five years of age. His mother took up all the hours of keeping the family rolling. He managed his siblings and carried out all the other household chores at home.
Before his bar mitzvah, when he was 12, Sanders left school and began working as a farmhand and in other odd jobs, which included acting as an assignment as a streetcar conductor. Such experience made him industrious and a good cook; such steps were essential in building the future of his passion for food.
