California history, from its Native origins to an International success
History has it that the transformation in California from an Indian’s place of habitation to becoming one of the world’s most international economies was characterized by the changes in its landscape and the different kinds of cultures, traditions, and lifestyle.
It started way back during the pre-colonial era as a time for Indian Civilizations.
California was a home of a whole myriad of Native cultures long before it was discovered by the Europeans. In fact, there were more than 100 thriving tribes in this region, such as Chumash, Miwok, Maidu, and Pomo among many others. The people lived with nature and possessed enough knowledge on agricultural and fishing and other skills of management of resources.
California presented Native peoples as the most linguistically diverse group in the world with more than 90 different unique languages that they used, complex societies that erected beautiful art forms and religious practices in great harmony with nature.
European Exploration and Spanish Colonization
Dramatic changes started from the time the European explorers located their way to California in the 16th century. Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo is recorded as being the first Spanish explorer to have passed down the coast of California back in 1542 while still laying down a claim to that area belonging to Spain, with this being despite this happening only in 1769 when Spain had still commenced an impressive settlement.
