Pakistan under Siege: The Swirling Storm of Women Rape Cases-Pakistan: A Way Forward
This matter is very serious indeed, and what alarming rate of violence against women, especially rape in Pakistan, has raised is a good question. This country’s laws and social attitude hound and condemn more the culture of impunity than punishing the culprit.
Statistics
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, on average 11 rapes take place each day. The rape cases averaged at 4,734 cases in 2022 across the country. Comparing this year with the previous one has had an increase of 20 percent. The real figures cannot be known due to this under-reporting.
Factors contributing to the problem:
- Patriarchal society: Patriarchal society of Pakistan is the sole cause that ensures victim-blaming.
2. Lack of legislation: Poor laws, poor implementation have caused injustice.
3. Stigma in the society They should not be seen by people, nor report.
4. Lack of knowledge on issues to do with consent and sexual harassment because of ignorance. Notable Cases: 1. In 2020 Motorway Rape Case: the woman, who was in her final stage of pregnancy was gang-raped before her children, and this incident further followed nationwide protests. 2.
